Audio Merger — Combine Multiple Audio Files Into One Continuous Track

Fragmented audio creates friction everywhere it travels. A multi-part audiobook ripped from CDs exists as dozens of separate tracks that must be queued individually. A podcast recorded in segments — intro, interview, ad reads, outro — lives as separate files that must be assembled before distribution. A DJ set recorded in overlapping takes needs to be joined into a single continuous mix. Merging these files into one eliminates the fragmentation at the source, producing a single file that behaves correctly everywhere audio is consumed.

Crossfade at join points determines whether the merge is seamless or audibly stitched. Two files merged with a hard cut produce a click or jump at the join if the waveforms do not line up at zero-crossing points. A 50-100ms crossfade smooths the transition by gradually fading out the end of the first file while fading in the start of the second — the overlap eliminates the click artifact that would otherwise appear. The audio merger applies configurable crossfade durations so joins in music tracks and speech recordings each get appropriate treatment.

Chapter markers in merged audiobooks and podcast compilations preserve navigability after combining. A single MP3 that contains 12 hours of audiobook material is convenient to store and transfer but frustrating to navigate without chapter markers. The merger embeds ID3 chapter metadata at each original file boundary so compatible players — Overcast, Pocket Casts, Apple Books, VLC — display a chapter list that lets listeners jump to any section directly. The combined file behaves like a structured document, not an undifferentiated blob.
